To make things a little easier for you, here’s a broad overview of the different options:
Wreath Materials
The main factor that celebrates one frame from another is the material. Here are the most popular ones available:
Foam Wreath Forms
These frames are large rings made of Styrofoam. They’re very lightweight, which is good if you need something that’s easy to hang. And they’re also easy to use for beginners.
That’s because all you need to do to decorate these is poke in whatever foliage or flowers you’re working with. Just make sure to clip the stems short enough that they don’t poke through, but long enough for support.
It’s the perfect option for all floral wreaths.
They’re also great for certain types of fabric wreaths. You can use them deco mesh and fabric remnants. Just tie the strips of fabric on, and arrange them to your liking.
Wire Wreath Form
Wire frames are the most common option available. They’re the one that everyone usually expects when buying these.
Wire is good because it provides a lot more durability. It’s a sturdy option that can endure heavier flowers and foliage, as well as outdoor use.

It’s also versatile. You can use it with fresh or artificial flowers, and any other materials you want to use. For example, it’s a favorite for deco mesh, wood, metal, sea shells, and even more unique options like flip-flops.
They also come in the widest variety of shapes and sizes.
The downside to wire is that it requires more skill. It can be tricky to attach things to the frame. Especially since there are multiple rings on the frame.
If you plan on using it, look up a few tutorials beforehand, to help you out.
Hoop Forms
Hoops frames are the simplest of all the options. They’re just a single ring, made out of wood or wire.
They’re a particularly popular option for modern or minimalist décor. The most common look is to create simplistic, asymmetrical designs.

But the downside to these is the same as it is with wire frames. It’s tricky to attach and arrange things on them if you’re a beginner.

Branch Wreath Forms
For an all-natural option, you can go with a twig or branch frame. These are unique in that they’re just dried branches, wrapped together.
Some options still have a wire frame beneath, to hold everything in place. But others are just the twigs themselves.
Grapevine is a particularly popular option for this, since it’s easy to manipulate into a circular shape.

These frames can be a bit tricky since you have to attach the flowers to the twigs. It can be difficult to get in and a single branch when they’re tightly woven together.
However, it provides a gorgeous, rustic look. It’s also a great option for pairing with dried flowers or foliage.
Wire Wreath Frame Sizes
There’s a wide variety of sizes you can choose from, with any material.
Mini frames usually run around 6 to 8 inches across.
Larger frames can get as large as 40 inches, and there are even some still larger than that.
There’s no set size that these decorations should be, so choose your size according to your project.
If you want some cute decorations, smaller, or even mini, options are fine. For a dramatic focal point on a wall or entryway, you’ll want something more in the 30-inch range.
Wreath Frame Shapes
There are a surprising number of different shapes available when it comes to frames.
Seasonal options include things like candy canes, pumpkins, and four-leaf clovers. There are also year-round options like squares and hearts.
But there are other things beyond these basic shapes as well. There are even options shaped like horse heads!
